Jimmy Wakely #3 - Frank Frazetta, Alex Toth art

Jimmy Wakely #3
Jimmy Wakely v1 #3, 1950 - Alex Toth contributes three tales, all of which are nearly unrecognizable in style and effort. Inkers Frank Giacoia and Sy Barry dominate the pencils, resulting in mediocre artwork overall. Frank Frazetta's back-up tale, on the other hand, is splendidly drawn. His opening panel is oddly flat, mostly due to its lack of shadows. That aside, subsequent scenes show detailed effort in the faces, figures and backgrounds (see interior page below). This story was later reprinted in Tomahawk #29. Other artists in this comic include Martin Naydel and Harvey Kurtzman. This is 1 of 4 Jimmy Wakely issues by Frazetta and 3 of 15 Jimmy Wakely issues by Toth.
